Fundamentals for Kids Inc. was created to assist underprivileged children and families in achieving a higher quality of life by providing the fundamentals for success.

History: The grassroots project began in 2000, when a small group of Cypress Greens 55+ Community residents, acting as "elves," organized Cypress Greens Christmas for Kids to assist Lake Alfred children and families in need. Residents pooled resources to provide provisions, clothing and gifts to distressed and underprivileged children and families during the winter holidays.

In May 2010, Cypress Greens Christmas for Kids filed for and received 501(c)3 status to better meet and achieve its mission and goals.

For the next six years, 4 Board Members and a Steering Committee of 35 leading volunteers were a driving force in achieving the organization's mission and goals.

In 2017, the organization transitioned to its new name, Fundamentals for Kids Inc., adding literacy education to its vision and mission. Two new projects, Readers Promise and Writers Promise were created to deliver Education , Entertainment, Engagement and Enthusiasm to elementary school children. Skilled volunteers from several professions, including retired teachers, storytellers, and performers, donate their time and talent to help children develop literacy skills and a lifelong love for reading and writing.

The organization serves children and families in several Florida Counties.
